Are you in this too?
Today we’re talking about the 7M TikTok Cult, which involves some of your favorite commercial LA based hip hop dancers you follow on socials.
There’s a documentary that was recently released on Netflix about them that’s getting massive press. Have you heard?
It’s called “Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult”.
If you follow commercial hip hop LA dancers like Miranda Derrick and her husband James Derrick, well…
they’re in a cult.
There’s others who have renounced affiliation and probably still others who are involved. The series mainly focuses on Miranda’s & James’ circle. Miranda’s sister was also beginning to be recruited but she never joined.
Who knew so many of the people you follow on social media’s lives are not as they fully seem.
Anyway…
this is the tea 🍵.
There’s a Korean pastor. He’s done a scheme like this before in the past when his church was just recruiting lonely ex pat Koreans. He was making them work like slave laborers, skimming their accounts, assigning them to mentors who were managing their bank accounts, and sexually assaulting / molesting some of the female members.
He changed his business model once he began meeting all these dancers who were struggling a bit to really take off. He realized he could capitalize on their talent through utilizing bursting social platforms with curated campaigns – which is why you see a lot of these kitschy couple dance vids in the middle of Times Square, e.g.
Obviously not every major hip-hop dancer that comes out of the Millenium or Playground studio is involved.
& there’s always two sides to the story.
The latest update from Miranda Derrick, the main spotlight of the series, is that she wanted to remain involved with 7M. She recently released a TikTok talking about how she and her partner’s lives have been threatened since the release of the docuseries, which you can watch here.
Watch this on Netflix for more if you feel called.
I’ve watched ⅔ episodes. It’s gnarly and it might shake up your construct of what goes on in some aspects of the entertainment industry / make money industry. Especially if you’ve lived/grown up in LA or are any way related to this commercial dance scene.
Peace.
