Kevan Hall FW25 ‘Journey To Japan’ at New York Fashion Week

START WITH AN EXTRAORDINARY PLANE RIDE

Kevan Hall closed out New York Fashion Week Tuesday night that transformed a Manhattan West space into a “Journey To Japan” with his fall and winter 2025-26 collection. Kevan is coming off of an incredible trip he took to Japan where even the flights via Japan Airlines were itself a journey along with taking the trip of a lifetime. Kevan sought out inspiration for his gowns this season through indigo that also spins off onto denim and blazers, seeking cultural identity through color. In fact, Kevan’s “Journey To Japan”, not only an eye-opening experience, was produced in 3 parts, Suminagashi, Kintsugi, and Indigo Dyeing, each playing a role in the creative process.

INDIGO DYEING

Kevan’s homage to revered Japanese techniques starts off with Indigo Dyeing. The fascinating and meticulous multi-step process of extracting vibrant color from fragmented indigo plants, embodying the essence of cultural identity through color. Kevan’s indigo comes alive with Blue Origami, a peony print halter gown in indigo blue silk organza, also featuring origami-inspired skirt from Kevan Hall in 2010. Paper cranes are the standout cultural symbol of Japanese culture, Kevan celebrates Cranes with indigo denim boot-leg jeans stitched with hand-embroidered cranes paired with a white devore silk kimono blouse. And indigo denim proves once again powerful with the Garden Suit, a blazer paired with A-line mini skirt featuring fringe detail, both embroidered with beaded butterflies and dragonflies.

SUMINAGASHI

Going across the aisle with last night’s Kevan Hall FW25 presentation, we come across Suminagashi. It’s the art of liquid marbling, where flowing ink and fluid hand movements create mesmerizing patterns. Kevan creates these Japanese techniques of mobile and movable patterns through Colored Threads, this décolleté gown paired with a textured taffeta skirt, crafted from thousands of yards of cotton thread in a spectrum of colors. One thing to note with this gown is the butterfly molded stitching taking place while aligning with metallic yarns and jewels. Movable patterns end result also takes place through the Malachite Ensemble that’s a sculpted jacket crafted from Suminagashi-inspired brocade with gold accents, paired with a malachite crescent neckline bustier.

Kevan Hall pays tribute to a late and great legend in the music industry, her name is Whitney Houston. Kevan celebrates with the Whitney Gown who wore Kevan’s gown back in 2003. This signature pattern includes a bias cut with an asymmetrical cowl neckline. And in fall 2025, Kevan features a Suminagashi inspired print in alabaster and taupe, illustrating the timeless beauty of Hall’s heritage collection.

KINTSUGI

We’ve saved the best for last of our Japanese techniques which Kevan Hall honors, it’s Kintsugi, taking destroyed beauty and making them better than they were before. But in true technical terms, Kingsugi is the restorative craft of mending broken pottery into gold, which inspired Hall’s vision of wholeness and unconventional pattern making. Kevan creates gold restoration through Grand Kintsugi, burnished gold lurex one-shoulder gown with a draped bodice and side bow detail, complemented by a Kintsugi-inspired jacquard kimono-coat. Restoration beauty lives on with the Pottery Gown, a tulle halter gown in rose quartz, intricately embroidered with gold metallic thread and a degrade Kintsugi pattern. Power is also found in restoration with the Tie-Front Power Suit, gold and alabaster jacquard tie-front jacket, inspired by Kintsugi, is paired with high-waisted boot-cut pants.

JAPAN AIRLINES

As noted earlier, Kevan Hall made Japan Airlines apart of her trip to Japan as Kevan sought out revered Japanese cultural techniques. Japan Airlines was also on tap for last night’s presentation as sponsored of the fall and winter 2025-26 collection, as well as sponsor the event. Japan Airlines is not just a flight to and from your destination, the flight is also a destination. Kevan’s seat on his flight to and from Japan feels like you are living in your own apartment which provides you all the amenities you need. As well as embodying a first class experience, Japan Airlines served up fine food dishes during his flight, freshly made, prepared, and cooked by in-flight chefs. From when you step on the plane, to the moment you land, your flight on Japan Airlines is itself a vacation before the actual vacation starts.

CONCLUSION

In a season where we’re truly reconnecting with fashion, and the world around us outside our digital devices, Kevan Hall FW25 honors immersion by nature with Japanese techniques that truly care for the citizens who live on their land. Bringing time-honored tradition together with modernization will always eliminate friction between the past, present, and future. A moving experience that Kevan Hall encountered in his “Journey To Japan” was being sent off to your next journey by grandparents, children, and grandchildren who appreciated your presence and loved that you came and took in their culture. Kevan Hall finds beautifulness in all details he comes across, beauty comes from places that give their children a future, being the most beautiful and sustainable gift civilization can give. Kevan Hall and the “Journey To Japan” reveres high fashion from high honored places that celebrates the beauty of Japanese tradition.
