LIBERATION WAS BORN
Think about the moment that’s not about your own empathy of what liberation felt like to you, but the generation when liberation was born. That’s right, the 1970’s when the conservative norms of not only life, but fashion was truly challenged. In order to feel that moment liberation first saw light, you have to encounter the textures, designs, and fabrics where fashion was not afraid to own this paradigm shift. Funari New York, created by Janelle Funari, recently held its NYFW runway show to show us what it’s like to have “Freedom”. “Freedom” Fall-Winter 2025-26 revisits a time when love was not expensive but abundant both in world views and intimacy.
For Janelle Funari, the inspiration for the collection is the feeling reminiscent of the 1970s where the vibe was about “Freedom”. She was lucky to grow up in this time and was taught to always be a “free-thinker” and to not let politics or religion divide us, but to always feel love because love wins. Chosen styles were inspired from the 1970s where Janelle remembers seeing her family wear amazing suits and flared pants with mock necks and color-block materials. This is evident in the collection’s composition.
This is the fabulous Danny Unisex Trench Coat with a removable hood. Available in caramel vegan leather with camo lining, black shiny duchess with snow leopard lining and shiny snake stamped denim with butterfly lining.
We first start with the Max Cargo Unisex Straight Leg Pants with oversized zipper and snap closure pockets.
Then the D Unisex Lace Shirt is a great style for both men and woman. Made from French lace, open-hole mesh sleeves and a vegan leather collar, placket and cuff. This is a great sexy and edgy top to pair with any pant or the skirt from the line and can be layered with the vest and trench coat.
We also have this Bomber Jacket that was created to be unisex. It has great a fit for men of all shapes and sizes and has a great boyfriend look for women’s wardrobe.
Available in shiny stamped snake with galaxy lining and in color-block foil stamped cotton-denim and distressed velvet giving a very elegant yet edgy vibe. We also created a unique one of kind plaid hoody Bomber Smoking Jacket with removable pockets made from recycled cigar wrappers and paneled with vegan leather. This style will be sold as unique one-of-a-kind art piece.
Next there is the Ryan Color-Block Unisex Track Jacket with Funari NY’s amazing Chris Unisex Jogger Pants. Plain smooth black shirt completes this look in such dramatic fashion.
The Yasmin Long Sleeve Zippered Bodysuit with the option to zip up for work and zip down for the club or dinner. Made from Eco-Lace and lining that is all recycled from bottles.
The Lauren Fit-and-Flare Corset-Detailed Mob Wife Jacket made in boucle tweed with a vegan fur trimmed hood is elegant and classy, yet edgy with vegan stamped snake details throughout.
The Unisex Angel Flare Bell Bottom Pants made from Eco-Denim. Women can wear them and have a boss vibe, and men can rock them out with any jacket from the collection.
The Maryna Pencil Dress has a sexy, fierce, femme fatale, Monica Bellucci, Mob Wife vibe. It has a front zipper you can wear closed by day and the open by night! This dress is a half sleeve style with French lace trimming on the bust, sleeve cuff and hem.
You’ll see the fibers chosen are all organic, vegan and recycled fibers such as vegan leather made from recycled plastics, lining made with recycled fibers from bottles, cotton tencel and stretch denim made from organic cotton and wood pulp and our New suede inspired by the old school “ultra-suede” of the 70s, but made with a suede texture using recycled bottles.
