For the very first time, Giobagnara participates in Design Miami Paris, the showcase of museum-quality furniture, lighting, and objets d’art, presented by the world’s leading 20th and 21st century design galleries in Paris, this October.
Alongside these galleries, Giobagnara brings exceptional works by design alchemist Martino Gamper and artist Gary Hume, realised in leather marquetry, in a collection of signed, numbered limited editions of gallery quality furniture and objects. The fil rouge here is marquetry in leather, for the first time executed on furniture rather than just small leather goods and handbags, and for the first time produced together with both aluminium and mirror.
Giobagnara combines the Italian renaissance with modern day Italy, during the renaissance this technique, known then as pietra dura, stone inlay or intarsia, was referred to by the Florentines, as ‘painting in stone’.Giobagnara have updated this by working in leather and suede (the speciality of the house for nearly 3 decades), together with aluminium, in the case of Gary Hume or mirror, in the case of Martino Gamper. This exceptional know-how or savoir-faire represents the best of made in Italy today, and connects back 500 years to the birth of the artisan, who have always been the producers behind the best of the decorative arts and design.
For the first time Giobagnara have focussed their skill and know how into creating decorative art, functional art, and design pieces with art in their centre. Bar cabinets, chests of drawers, folding screens, vases, trays, mirrors, games and games tables, each items of design, with the artistic expression of designer Martino Gamper and artist Gary Hume, who enters the world of design for the first time Two artists of international standing, two wholly distinct visual languages, each translated into a series of limited and numbered objects, realised through Giobagnara’s craft in leather marquetry.
Stand out pieces from Martino Gamper include the large abstract mirrors Margo Speculi and the chest of drawers Margo Scrinii crafted in multi coloured suede and leather and from Gary Hume the American Tan XXV Cabinet, cast in aluminium, milled with inserts of colourful calfskin nappa based on Humes’s original painting from 2006 and a set of trays Archipelago 4, Life Jacket and The Tenth Archipelago crafted of cast aluminium milled and finished in colourful suede.
Design Miami Paris provides the natural stage for this debut. Conceived from the outset with collectors in mind, the collection responds to an audience increasingly interested in objects that combine artistic and aesthetic significance with exceptional craftsmanship and functionality rooted in the values that have defined Giobagnara for nearly three decades: uncompromising quality, material innovation and the enduring excellence of Made in Italy.

Giobagnara
Founded in Genoa at the end of the 1990s by Giorgio and Vanessa Bagnara, Giobagnara is the maison that introduced leather to the world of home décor: a pioneering act at a time when the material was almost exclusively associated with fashion and saddlery. Martino Gamper
Martino Gamper (b. 1971, Merano, Italy) lives and works in London. Trained as a cabinet maker, he studied sculpture under Michelangelo Pistoletto at the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna, and completed a Masters at the Royal College of Art, London, in 2000. In 2023 he was awarded an OBE for services to Design. His work has been shown at the Serpentine Gallery, Palais de Tokyo, SFMOMA and Castello di Rivoli, among others.
Gary Hume
Gary Hume (b. 1962, Tenterden, Kent) graduated from Goldsmiths College, London, in 1988. A central figure of the Young British Artists generation, his work infuses high modernist abstraction with a sign-like directness, executed in high-gloss industrial paint on aluminium panels. He represented Great Britain at the Venice Biennale in 1999, was nominated for the Turner Prize in 1996, and was elected a Royal Academician in 2001. Represented by Sprüth Magers and Matthew Marks Gallery.
Nick Vinson
Nick Vinson is a contributing editor of Wallpaper*, a role he has held since 2003. He runs Vinson&Co, a London-based bureau specialising in creative direction and interiors for the luxury goods industry. His work spans editorial projects, interior design and curatorial practice, including the interior of the Italian Embassy in London. At Fuorisalone 2025, Vinson curated the first Giobagnara presentation at Via della Spiga 33, creating fourteen composed vignettes that brought together Giorgio Bagnara’s private art collection and the Giobagnara design collection in a highly praised installation. In 2026 he was awarded the Order of the Star of Italy, Cavaliere dell’Ordine della Stella d’Italia, by the President of the republic of Italy.
