If you put yourself in observation mode like DANIEL PLUS LAUREN is now, you will have concluded that paintings are just like constructing or renovating a home. Your job is to transform or build from the ground up a new space that you can truly call home. But first, there’s peeling off the old layers only to find out things you long forgotten about. Or excavation below the foundation revealing flaws or artifacts. This is one form of revelation called “EMERSION”. Debbie Dickinson used EMERSION through Gabriella Anouk, Neil Kerman, and Alayna Coverly at Zadeh NY on Manhattan’s UES to take colors, oils, pencils, and acrylics on canvas to bring out vulnerabilities and emotions you never knew existed.
A pomegranate is one of the most beautiful fruits in the world. The insides reveal how the white membranes hold thousands of tiny juicy red seeds together in one hard circle with its distinctive red shade. Gabriela Anouk went deep with colored pencil on mount board to explore color, light, and reflection in 3 dimensional fashion. Gabriela Anouk’s “Pomegranate Armour Original” takes the pomegranate for its exotic origins and transforms it into a luminous gem of hidden beauty.
A pearl is not just a rare form of beauty you find deep in the sea through an oyster or even a jeweler once that pearl is ready to market. Neil Kerman rolls the dice shaping acrylics by hand on a diagonal canvas to recreate deep and light forms of pearl. Multiple circular shapes sliced out by color fill the canvas to reveal the whirling back and forth motion of a hurricane. Instead of leaving damage in its path, Neil Korman’s “Pretty In Pearl” swirls up a gathering of pearls so one deeply colored pearl can stand out at the center of its beautiful self.
It’s not an ideal situation to find yourself in a compromising position you can’t get out of. There’s struggle and turmoil yet to be revealed, but there’s hope on the other side of the firewall. Alayna Coverly in her portrait of “Stuck” that’s oil on acrylics shows off an illuminating colorful sheet with deep crevasses hollow and solid that covers up the bad situation underneath. The beautiful placement of a dark-skinned hand makes sure to either keep the negative circumstances hidden. Or is ready to set the person, place, or thing free of the shackles it’s been chained to for much too long.
Debbie Dickinson’s “EMERSION” brings you the process of revelation through the beauty of paintings that take their materials to levels you haven’t seen before. The moment of truth isn’t always disturbing facts about any given situation that can only lead to a consequential result. Reimagining the exotic beauty of a pomegranate reminds you of the working instruments that could be our organs that make our daily existence possible. The most conceivable solution to understanding how civilization works is using the beautiful aesthetics of art to convey an idea that will only help us solve the mysteries of life for generations to come.
A very special thank you to Catherine Zadeh with her Zadeh jewelry boutique that offers beautiful jewelry of precious metals with Asian Buffalo boar. “EMERSION” by the Debbie Dickinson Gallery reveals its organic form of revelation to the art gallery community all due in part to Zadeh’s on 1288 Madison Avenue.
The Debbie Dickinson Gallery would like to thank those who sponsored “EMERSION” with Zadeh’s being one. Also Neuhaus, Paola’s, Peter Thomas Roth, Aphrodite, Prism Med Spa, Web By Wire, U.S. Private Jets, and the Alzheimer’s Association.
