Sustaining Your Livelihood

Today was the second day Fashinnovation held its all day long live marathon webinar of fashion insiders from around the world, which included keynote speakers Kenneth Cole and Diane Von Frustenberg at the ladder part of the day, all touching on the survival and needs of fashion brands during the COVID19 pandemic.

There’s a new world in fashion going on, it starts in China as life slowly gets back to normal, beauty staples like makeup have picked up interest again, but the upsurge in video watching, eating at home, and being more careful on how to go about daily life still reign supreme, though Chinese residents didn’t hesitate to go outside again.

For most of the day, it’s sustainability that’s on fashion’s mind, finding new relevance with brands who need to survive, going as far as retooling their plants to produce essentials, some see a brand-new normal of collaboration instead of competition on the horizon, others see empathy and splash only being displayed every once in awhile when our economy gets restarted again.

It’s obvious that fancy dresses, shoes, special occasions, and grand old purchases are not on people’s minds right now because they only want to be comfortable and could be living paycheck to paycheck pretty soon if not already, there are all kinds of lofty ideas on how the world will go on, but it’s gonna take acceptance and a guide in the right direction to carve out what retailers, brands, and runways will look like once they have to pivot to both digital, and even creating great experiences in the real world.

If you are one who’s in need of new direction after losing everything from COVID19, then sell all the things that make you talent for an employer who could really use your services right now, even go as far as volunteering in your neighborhood to help those that truly need it, it’ll look good for college, and a job too.

It’s in grim times where great people with great ideas go into action, that’s how Kenneth Cole came on the scene during the Great Recession of 1982, living through turmoil and rising above the darkness.

And Diane Von Furstenberg reassures those that are in despair that your job loss or loss of wealth doesn’t take your creativity, you can discover the person you truly wanna be in these trying times.
