The Pivot Is Real

It’s a jungle out there, but it’s not the real world that’s in action right now because of COVID19, it’s the virtual world where all the action is thanks to Zoom, home schooling, fundraisers, and webinars, even events that we’re suppose to be physical pivoted to virtual, that’s what Fashion Mingle’s “Mingle Mastermind Group” digs deep into today with Wendy Hu, the founder of Visual Conductor, who sees a new reality in virtual event hosting hanging around for awhile.

Wendy initiated the discussion by talking about her career beginnings and pushing boundaries, then Wendy landed on where she was before COVID19 happened, Wendy like any New York fashion powerhouse had a line of events planned out for the year, then COVID19 hit, stay-at-home orders were enforced, events were canceled, and revenue was gone.

But not all was lost, Wendy and her team at Visual Conductor came up with an idea to lift everybody’s spirits after being stuck at home and not knowing what the future holds, it’s called “dancIN”, a virtual party experiment equipped with deejays, visual artists, art work, dancers, and those in costumes, all having a good time from home.

Wendy, and the rest of the “Mingle Mastermind Group” also touched on the possibility of New York Fashion Week going virtual in some capacity if all is not ready and done with COVID19 come fall, there’s also a real chance that we could be pivoted into a virtual way of living and doing business for the next year, maybe 2 years.

Plus, as more high-profile events pivot to virtual, there’s legal issues like waivers that need to be signed when people and their work are showcased, and confidentiality agreements about events and things coming up in the future.

Right now, virtual events from key organizers are free of charge as the experimental process to see what works is in gear, but it’s not clear when events free right now will start charging for access, and VIP access as well.
