The Society of London Theatre handed down news today concerning COVID19 that the West End shutdown had been extended by another month, originally until May 31, West End theatres will now be closed until June 28, but it doesn’t mean the West End will be reopened the next day on June 29.

At this point, any further cancellations on the West End concerning different theatres and the West End as a whole will continue to be announced, though it is unclear when each theatre on the West End will plan of reopening their theatres, so theatre productions can resume, it’s said to be a slower process than TV or film, and some don’t see anything resuming till at least next year.

The West End announced on April 14 that it reached an agreement with U.K. actors, and the Society of London Theatre that equity actors will continue to be paid throughout the COVID19 shutdown, and resume production no matter how long the run once the shutdown ends.

Broadway’s current shutdown here in the U.S. was extended to June 7 from April 12 back on April 8, but it’s also said that Broadway’s shutdown could be extended once again, as theatre people on both the U.S. and U.K. fronts collaborate with each other on how to proceed during and after COVID19.
