ONE MUST DREAM
On this first day of New York Fashion Week, fall today is felt tremendously with no drop of humidity in the air. Daylight Studios here in New York City held its morning edition of New York Men’s Day with a sense of wonder, oasis, and dream sequence. Spring and Summer 2025 men’s looks appear to take stock in cherishing in happy moments we want to hold onto and explore. As the world continues to be in a delicate crossroads with current events that dampen our mood, we travel to fantasy for comfort out of hard times, Clara Son and A.Potts provide the setting to make escapism possible.
CLARA SON
There’s a huge emphasis on knits as Clara Son symbolizes the bicycle for her “Reminiscence” 2024 Capsule showing off easier times. Sweaters, turtlenecks, and pullovers dominate the comfort sphere with a blend of neutral and bold colors for a combination of ease and excitement. Also prominent are button-down shirts with shorts guided just like knits, but traditional fabrics are fattened up with pops of color.
Continuing on with oversized bottoms of varying fabrics and styles tells you that living the work-from-home, virtual life, and limitless fun are prevalent now like during the COVID-19 pandemic. There’s certainly a pause in fast-paced next-level trends in favor of fully-enhanced comfort that takes time and stands it still, also giving reflection of how GEN Z approaches day-to-day living. Knowing how long this fantasy stillness will last is not something we can answer, only circumstances and outcomes in the world will give us that answer.
A.POTTS
Spring and Summer 2025 will certainly leave lots of questions to what unfolds, but it doesn’t mean we have to pause on aquatic inspiration by A.Potts. The color of blue could never be more played with to show off the beautiful asymmetrical dresses and silhouettes displayed. We shouldn’t forget this is Men’s Day, but A.Potts delivers unisex appeal to menswear now more notable on women.
Not only did you see all kinds of knits, solids, and even sequins play out with A. Potts, you also saw brown dominant. Brown came in for the kills with the brown bodysuit which everyone couldn’t get enough of. The right amount of silhouette touching the hot sand with cool aquatic life brought a spring transitioning to summer day in May with this bodysuit begs for SS25 to arrive. Also layering out the summer part of A.Potts aquatic fantasy was the multi-layered blue dress, high quality beautiful fabrics twirling the height of summer into an aquatic red carpet.
As spoken by NYMD and A.Potts, Urbanoceana, the collection is inspired by visions of the deep sea, the beauty of aquatic life, the warrior Princess Diana on Themyscira, beachy 70s supermodels, African gods and goddesses descended on the sandy beaches of Zanzibar, traditional Japanese workwear and the work of South African photographers Jessica Madavo and Tanatswa Amisi. The collection is a convergence of that dream-state with the practicality of urban life, designed through our lens of “everyday editorial”, designed for creative professionals. Join us where the sea meets the city.
CONCLUSION
The primary feel for Men’s Spring and Summer 2025 is continuing to seek out an immense amount of fantasy desired. The setting is perfect to find new essential parts of our world that can be sought out in a fun and exciting way. Textures, fabrics, and colors this coming SS25 will tell the story of a population in need of pausing fast fashion and brutal realities for timeless knit enhancements. Plus, the evolution of menswear onto a woman’s universe with silhouette’s enhancing the natural beauty of the female, and men’s in reverse.
