ANNA, MEET ANNA
If you were to go back 2 decades to 2006 when “The Devil Wears Prada” first came out, it would be unheard of for Anna Wintour to have even the smallest part in the movie. Now come back to present day, “Prada” sequel out next month, but Vogue wants now nothing but to achieve that meeting with Anna Wintour and Meryl Streep. At first, still not willing to buy in, but it only took Meryl herself to convince Anna that they should pose together. We go back in time to one day earlier, Tuesday, where Vogue revealed their May cover to have the 2 Annas front page.
One initial takeaway from this extensive Vogue May piece is Anna believes that men dress for the job they want. Women dress more nebulous, where they’re abandoning the notion that they have to wear a power suit. Powerful women such as Michelle Obama or Melania Trump take on brands like J.Crew, Duro Olowu or Matthieu Blazy’s Chanel.
Meryl sees the messages as 180, telling young women that figures like Michelle or Melania I really don’t care, do you?? Of course, Meryl is referring to dressing how you want if you’re witnessing migrant children getting incarcerated. Bottom line from Meryl, all dress is about expressing yourself. But Meryl is still bothered how men are free to cover up in suits and ties while women bare arms.
