LAGUNA RISES EARLY 🌞

If an unforgettable stop at the Empire State Building here in New York City wasn’t fulfilling enough for “Laguna Beach” fans, our famous trio stopped at Studio 1A in Rockefeller Plaza today at “The Today Show” on NBC. Lauren Conrad, Kristin Cavallari, and Stephen Colletti were interviewed by former MTV alumni, Carson Daly, who hosted TRL from 1998 till 2003, which is just a year before “Laguna Beach” debuted. All 4 MTV alums took the time to talk about as Carson was leaving, he remembers hearing buzz about a “90210” like reality show being developed for MTV.

And in 2003, MTV already had pioneered reality TV with “The Real World”, “Road Rules”, “The Challenge”, “The Osbournes” “Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica”, and “Making The Band”. Saying “Laguna Beach” was so different from typical reality TV would clearly be an understatement. No confessionals, jerky cameras moves, or live ENG cameras involved. What we got from “Laguna Beach” which DPL read about prior to the premiere at the time was a real life show filmed, produced, and edited like a scripted drama. Special DVCPro cameras were used to shoot scenes, and a film like look was provided to our TV screens.

And all leading up to the premiere on Tuesday, September 28, 2004, “Laguna Beach” was the MTV series everyone was now waiting for, where Lauren, Kristin, and Stephen immediately became the bosses of MTV, snatching it away from Jessica Simpson.
