Where Does Love Come From?

It’s that time of year where we show appreciation for all the hard work people do for us throughout the year, and vice versa, one of Daniel plus Lauren’s closet friends, Adila Boer, spreads the love going “Between Threads” with the Maria’s Handbags By Adila Boer collection, where time and love are the most valuable gifts of the season, both are shared via the artisans who put both aspects into Maria’s Handbags By Adila Boer.

In Guatemala we have one of the largest textile inheritances in Latin America and many people do not even know it.

Maria’s was born with several purposes, the main one being to honor the work of our weavers and preserve the textile legacy of Guatemala, since we design our products in the best way to exhibit these pieces of art.

Another of our purposes is the empowerment of women, it is very important not only to preserve our ancestral weavings and heritages but also to generate a decent income for the artisan women.

We support women not only through work but also through their creativity, their legacies, their cultural heritage and the stories they share through their artwork.

If these women can create through what they like to do and at the same time receive an income we will improve our society because if the money is reaching the hands of the mothers, we will ensure that the children have a better education and feeding.

That is why the engine, the soul and heart of María’s are the women, not only the artists who make these works of art, but also the women who wear them.

We started this story with only three artisans and currently Marias employs more than 500 women weavers who create these designs from their homes preserving ancient techniques.

Likewise, we seek to educate about the background behind our huipiles and their meaning because only by learning all this, we will be able to value these pieces of art both in our country and around the world.

Each textile is created using ancient couture techniques reflecting the symbolism and mysticism of the Mayan people.

It can take up to six months to create one of the magnificent pieces of art. The time that passes between threads while the huipiles are woven and the bags are manufactured is precious time, where experience, a legacy and love are shared. It is so important that at the beginning, women wove these incredible pieces of art for themselves or people who meant a lot to them.

During this Christmas season, dishes are prepared in Guatemala that, like the bags, require time, love and tradition, cooking for our loved ones makes this time one of the favorites of the whole year. Everything that is worth it takes time and love and you can share both by giving a Maria’s.

More than just accessories, each collection contains traditions entrusted from generations past and nourished by the hands of our ancestors.

Within each canvas and beaded piece lies profound stories laden with history, symbolism, and mysticism.

Our collections give life to these incredible artisanal traditions while incorporating modern sensibility with chic and unique designs.

The value that we offer to our customers lies in the uniqueness of the handbags, the quality and originality of the material used, the vibrant and captivating colors, the richness of ancestral traditions, and the work of the highly skilled artisans behind each piece.

By presenting this legacy to other corners of the world, we aspire to bring this endangered tradition back to life.

Each piece tells a story and portrays the millenary heritage of the rich Mayan culture.
