Rescue Us From ‘Midsommar’

It’s certainly a day of mourning and sadness in many respects, not only by COVID19, but by what could’ve been, like March Madness in the NCAA was suppose to start today, but that’s not to be along with a lot of youthful milestones like spring break, graduation, prom, or even performing in a Broadway show, but that loss of performance cuts skin deep when professionalism is involved, along with those who put it together; the IATSE revealed today that it’s sent a letter to the United States Congress Wednesday in the form of 80,000 letters, urging that entertainment workers unemployed by coronavirus be included in a financial aid package.

The entertainment industry is not one that’s a stable one where you get a paycheck everyday, it’s gig work at best that’s either a day, week, month, or season, talent and crew members that’s either stage, TV, or film rely on whatever job they can get so they’re able to plan out finances for when they work, and when they don’t.

However, since all forms of work and lifestyle have cease to exist right now due to COVID19, entertainment workers are at a loss for income, let alone words, they don’t know when they’re next paycheck is coming, and “until further notice” are the scariest words you’re forced to hear if you gotta pay rent, pay your bills, and feed your family, being why IATSE is working tirelessly to make sure entertainment workers don’t face that reality.

The Families First Coronavirus Response Act (H.R. 6201) will provide relief to workers in other industries, but those industries do not include the entertainment industry, who are the entertainment workers that could suffer even more if no one comes to their aid.
