The unemployment numbers this week were unforgivable yet again, as the United States Department Of Labor released the latest unemployment claims today, with another 4,427,000 filed, though down from 5,245,000 last week by 810,000, it tallies up to a more than a staggering 26 million plus out of work in over 4 weeks since COVID19 broke.
And even though the numbers are not as high as 6.6 million reached twice for unemployment claims, claim numbers down from recent weeks doesn’t make the financial pandemic created by COVID19 any better, it just lays the bad shape the workforce is in, with 15,976,000 now on unemployment.
There’s also help for those small businesses in dire straits, with the Paycheck Protection Program that keeps employees paid, and loans forgivable as long as employees stay on the payroll for a number of weeks.
Another option for many businesses is turning their non-essential business into an essential operation, one that produces gowns and masks for patients suffering from COVID19, keeping staff employed, and fighting on the front lines.
An option too is redirecting our economy to include collaboration with other countries, and more emphasis on infrastructure and global healthcare to find a COVID19 vaccine and economic recovery faster.
