NEW YORK, May 2023
Renowned international luxury furniture brand Roche Bobois is pleased to announce its sixth participation in the annual DIFFA by Design showcase, presented by the Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS (DIFFA) from May 21st to 23rd at the Javits Center in New York City. In honor of the event’s focus on sustainability, Recycle, Reuse, Repurpose, Roche Bobois collaborated with acclaimed architecture and design firm Rockwell Group to design an immersive abstract forest.
Roche Bobois opted to highlight the brand’s significant commitment to eco-design and usage of FSC® certified wood in their product manufacturing process. The brand also developed their in-house tool, called Eco-8, to evaluate their products for sustainability and environmental impact. Rockwell Group designed as an abstract vignette with verticality and soft, organic forms. The walls are covered in a mirrored stretch fabric with a hint of transparency that allows colorful, playful neon messages about DIFFA and sustainability to shine through. The wall surface, combined with dramatic lighting, also offers a moment of self-reflection, prompting guests to envision their role in creating a sustainable future. An uplit tree trunk sculpture emerges from the environment’s green platform, where wooden Roche Bobois pieces are scattered across representing the lush forest.
The unique installation features the brand’s iconic pieces made from FSC® certified wood, including the PULP Dining Table by Eugeni Quitllet; and the SHARK Coffee Table, Console, and Side Table by Studio Juam; the LEGEND Shelf by Christophe Delcourt; as well as DOLMEN blown-glass vases decorating the PULP tabletop. All these products are part of the eco-design line and are among the top-rated products in Eco-8, the brand’s in-house tool for evaluating its products for sustainability and environmental impact.
“Our design was driven by Roche Bobois’ eco-conscious pieces, and our embrace of DIFFA by Design’s spirit of sustainability. Our goal was to create an evocative, abstract vignette that suggests the melding of the natural world with the hand-crafted. As with all of our DIFFA installations, we also wanted to bring a sense of celebration, play, and hope for the future,” says David Rockwell, founder and president of Rockwell Group.
“We are proud to support DIFFA once again and thrilled to partner with Rockwell Group, a long term collaborator of the brand, who brought their storytelling expertise to highlight our eco-design commitments that have been in the heart of our approach since 2006, and our recent initiatives to promote a sustainable French art de vivre,” says Cindy Susilo, Marketing Director, Roche Bobois North America.
