ATTRACTIVE INNOVATION
If there was a very important night for the intimates industry to come together, it was on August 5 where the Femmy Awards took place. Not only did New York City have late day thunderstorms causing dramatic flooding, but the Cipriani on East 42nd Street in midtown Manhattan had a ballroom filled with game-changers who make our lingerie items a must-have on our list of staples. For the last few years, DANIEL PLUS LAUREN has talked about the new eras that have been realized in the lingerie industry.
We’ve seen the uprising of comfort bras, wireless intimates, inclusive shapewear, flattering nylons, and brands like Commando devoted to improving the look of your body outside the undergarment. Femmy Awards honorees include Mayur Vansia of Victoria’s Secret, founder of Commando, Kerry O’ Brien, Ann Usinger of Vanity Fair, Mariela Rovito of eberjey, and Mr. LIU Zhenqiang, Bull Liu of Regina Miracle. DANIEL PLUS LAUREN also chatted briefly with Tina Wilson, President of The Under Fashion Club, inc.

No, it’s far from naked, but it’s extraordinary panties of all types, leggings, shapewear, dresses, and now menswear move to the beat of its own drum. Kerry O’ Brien didn’t sought out to reinvent the wheel or undergarments in all classes, Kerry just created her own take on it. In fact, Commando found inspiration from high quality fabrics around the world to create their own fabrics that are breathable, functional, and flattering on the body. The love for Commando is so high, that highly regarded items end up on back order before back in stock.

Working in the lingerie business for many, many years, Tina Wilson not only oversees the Femmy Awards, but heads the Under Fashion Club. For Tina, it’s not just about overseeing and guiding the direction of this wonderful organization, it’s all about bringing up the future. Tina networks with so many leaders of highly successful intimate brands on a daily basis, getting feedback on the new innovations of intimates, activewear, and swimwear.
But Tina’s mission is not complete without networking with the most important people of all, the students. There wouldn’t be the intimates industry without students who’ve not only worked their way up or learned as interns, but also have innovated lingerie with their own ideas.
