MEANS OF COMMUNICATION

Look at your screen, that is a way to send a message, whether it’s super-important or extremely silly. Not just is it the electronic device large or small do we send a message, we communicate through other means such as clay, stone, painting, and paper. Paper is the most vital to send a message no matter how important it is, it’s also a means to create art. And let’s not forget live communicating, expression from other human beings through word, movement, or runway. And heading into New York Fashion Week, Debbie Dickinson delivers at the Art On Paper fair here in New York City starting tonight at Pier 36. Debbie uses the power of paper as a medium to convey emotional and artistic expression. Debbie turns to her truly talented group of artists for paper emotions who are David Richardson, Evan Sebastian Lagache, Bill Buchman, Cosmo Mullican, Anthony Haden-Guest, and Zachary B. Kahn.

DAVID RICHARDSON

You can say the floral arrangements seen here are not just beautiful, they come with chaos and disorder. David Richardson strives to portray the delicate beauty of florals, the constant struggle that creates chaos to keep the flower arrangements in order. His intricate compositions and vivid hues provoke a contemplative dialogue on the inherent asymmetry of the natural world. Richardson’s work invites viewers to consider the delicate balance between order and chaos, creating a space where contemplation and aesthetic pleasure converge.

EVAN SEBASTIAN LAGACHE

Pivotal events in history leave a lasting mark on our civilization, important decisions are sure to extend the happiness of human beings. But history comes with rough exteriors that showcase the struggle we fought to do what we ought to do. Evan Sebastian Lagache presents a compelling exploration of environmental abstraction. His mixed media pieces capture the raw, primal essence of nature, reflecting an emotional journey through dynamic forms and rich, evocative colors. Lagache’s work stands as a testament to the visceral interplay between artistic expression and environmental inspiration, offering a profound commentary on the intersection of internal and external landscapes as viewed from space.

BILL BUCHMAN

Harmony can only be found in notes of music, we see the strokes of notes bend to make the perfect sound in whatever circumstance possible. However the movement of the note takes place, you can always find its own color to deliver the message. Bill Buchman’s abstract compositions transcend traditional boundaries to celebrate the universal language of visual art, drawing deeply from his musical experiences. His work invites viewers to engage with and interpret the fluid language of abstraction, fostering a shared experience of creativity that bridges diverse perspectives. Just as music conveys emotion and narrative through rhythm and melody, Buchman’s paintings translate musical elements into a visual form, creating a harmonious interplay into line and color.

COSMO MULLICAN

Once you look at a final cut of a rough drawing of a key figure, you can’t help it but think about their reason for how they present themselves to the world. What is the mental capacity of these game-changing thinkers? What does it take in their struggle to achieve the idea they leave on the world? Cosmo Mullican explores the complexities
of the human psyche, focusing on identity, mental health, and the isolating nature of consciousness. His art fosters empathy and understanding by telling stories through painting, inspired by the diverse experiences of life. Through this exploration, Mullican seeks to unravel the intricate layers of human existence.

ANTHONY HADEN-GUEST

For every twist and turn, we find a connection to the problem we are trying to solve, it’s hard to arrive at that conclusion, but we finally get there. But then at some point, all the dots in our lives become to predictable, so it’s time to disengage each dot one piece at a time. Anthony Haden-Guest’s distinctive cartoon art introduces a playful yet insightful examination of life’s complexities. His whimsical narratives blend humor with profound observations, offering a unique perspective on the multifaceted nature of human experience.

ZACHARY B. KAHN

Launching into orbit happens at the perfect time, no matter if it’s out in a peaceful environment, or in an urban concrete jungle. The rocket you step into that takes you where you want to go with places unknown feels like a ticket out of a place you want to finally leave to somewhere more exciting. Zachary B. Kahn’s work merges the raw energy of urban landscapes with the precision of design. Rooted in graffiti and sign painting, his art captures the essence of spaces and communities, transforming them into bold visual dialogues. Influenced by hard-edge abstraction, Kahn blends defined shapes with the organic flow of graffiti, exploring the tension between order and spontaneity.

CONCLUSION

You find that the simplest way to communicate an idea that’s final or just beginning is on a piece of paper. There’s no waiting for the canvas or looking into your screen to express an idea, if you’ve got a piece of paper near you, you got to go ahead and draw. And in the end, paper is the fastest way to communicate an idea of art with vivid hues and colors that you can find very quickly. A canvas can appear too stuffy to convey a gritty message that’s very important, paper is immediate and leaves an emotional impact to take action, and also react. Debbie Dickinson and her “Art On Paper” gallery is the first step to get the audience engaged in an idea, taking it with them not only through New York Fashion Week, but through the personal and professional lives.
