FUTURE OF FASHION

Bronx born fashion public relations business owner, Dee Rivera, held her annual Times Square Fashion Week during NYFW on Tuesday, September 10. New York Fashion Week has always brought flair, but Times Square unlocks spaces unknown in common places. Participants for TSFW include SFH Designs, Mrs Mommabear Workwear, Tantiana The Label, S.A.D.A. Chicc, and Sierra Hotel. HUDSON McKINLEY-USS

But first, let me introduce you to a truly talented designer named Hudson McKinley-Uss, who just enrolled in Parsons School of Fashion, and just launched their collection at TSFW. Hudson received the TSFW Young Recipient Award for his eye-catching MTA Metrocard dress embodying the MTA fare-evading system we all know and love (DPL not a fare-evader). Hudson also included the dress he wore to his prom this past spring made up in sheer egg-plant colored one shoulder with stringed gems shining down in lavender. Hudson found his love for design working in the theater department designing costumes, and Hudson’s friends wanted more. Hudson McKinley-Uss would love to design more costume, performance, and drag pieces, one key inspiration Hudson has is Sasha Velour.

SFH DESIGNS – SARAH HUTSON

Based out of Brisbane, Australia, Sarah Hutson brought her bohemian-inspired SFH Designs collection to Times Square Fashion Week. To be technically correct, Sarah created a bohemian-glamour collection that’s all about sequin, bold colors, big and bold prints, and non-conforming pieces. Colors plays a remarkably heavy role because color brings joy and optimism, and color truly emphasizes fabrics that have free range to empower a women’s all around beauty. Two of DPL’s favorites with SFH are the flashy multi-colored sequin one-piece wide leg pantsuit, and the sequin print black canvas SFH top vest.

MRS. MAMMABEAR WORKWEAR – LEE EVANS LEE

Go to work, look your best, be on time, and perform well, that’s the motto of the 9 to 5 woman where there’s very little room for style. But if you’re Lee Evans Lee, creator of Mrs. Mammabear Workwear, you redefine what business casual in the workplace is. Lee’s signature piece is the big white polka dot body con dress with a free-flowing torso, followed by a of jumpsuits in solid dark colors and stripes. Mrs. Mommabear Workwear also goes beyond the workday attire with heavy textured and traditional formal dresses. One of the key takeaways DANIEL PLUS LAUREN got from Mrs. Mommabear Workwear is it’s made up of the same fabric used to manufacture athleisure wear.

TANTIANA THE LABEL – TANTIANA McGRATH

Making her first-ever strut down the runway, Tantiana The Label creates a collection that’s comfortable, breathable, and sexy. One piece that stood out was the Claire Dress, in bold blue, truly embodying the confidence a woman needs that Tantiana McGrath provides. Other looks went for satin and solid in one bold sexy color, you can find a ruffled U-Neck dress or a 2-piece crop dress or pantsuit in the same order. Tantiana also celebrates floral prints using the very same idea to give a woman no limit to the amount of sexiness she can ooze.

TANTIANA THE LABEL (BONUS)

Tantiana The Label also 3 dazzling look to start off Tantiana’s runway walk. Tantiana brought elegance with a black sleeveless choker slid leg gown made up of solid black stretch material with ruffled white edge detail at the top. Elegance got more summery and light with a two-piece spaghetti strap top and high-waisted skirt in satin and mint crème. Looks no. 1 and 2 were combined to make this golden yellow jumpsuit with wide leg, ruffles, and sleeveless arms.

S.A.D.A. CHICC – ANDREA MANTEIGA

Dynamic and breezy is just the beginning for S.A.D.A. Chicc with its line of dresses ranging from the maxi dress to the pleats you will know in a moment. Maxi dresses for Andrea Manteiga come first in cut out green and floral patterns for starters, then there’s the green cut out satin body con dress in the exact same order. A little Diane von Frustenberg inspiration is found in the V-neck long sleeve vertical line multicolored body con dress again that honors upper body down to torso. And pleats are not just for skirts anymore, pleats make up a cut out yellow dress with pleat design from top to bottom.

SIERRA HOTEL – ARABELLA MOFFIT

Much like TSFW young recipient, Hudson McKinley-Uss, Arabella Moffit is the youngest to present her collection, Sierra Hotel, at only 16 years old. In this high-end collection, Sierra Hotel is all about comfort with her hoodies, sweatpants, shorts, and sweatshirts in high-end fashion. You’ve also got an incredible amount of dresses, skirts, and even skirts to round out a tremendously chic resort inspired collection. DPL’s favorite out of Sierra Hotel is the Halo Dress, made up of organic cotton which takes 900 liters of water to make, fitted, body-skimming style, soft, easy to wear, minimal, and style abundant. Sierra Hotel means fighter pilots (s**t hot), inspired by aviation in Arabella’s life, Arabella Moffit also received the “Emerging Artist Award” at this season’s Times Square Fashion Week.

ANGELINA BELLA BEAUTY

ANGELINA BELLA – ANGELINA BELLA BEAUTY

Over at the Times Square Fashion Week pop-up store at Port Authority in midtown Manhattan, DANIEL PLUS LAUREN paid a visit and met Angelina Bella. Angelina created her namesake beauty collection largely made up of lipgloss, lip care, and eyeshadow. Angelina Bella’s fruity and beautiful lip care products are not conventionally made, it’s absolutely vegan. Angelina Bella Beauty is fully sustainable and made with coconut oil, argan oil, shea butter, and vitamins A, C, and E.

JEAN SHAFIROFF – TIMES SQUARE FASHION WEEK EmCee

More than a New York Fashion Week and NYC fashion community socialite at large, Jean Shafiroff is a philanthropist. Along with being an author and television show host, Jean Shafiroff is a driving force who EmCee’s TSFW each and every year. Jean puts in her time and energy to honor those making extraordinary achievements in fashion that will share our industry for years to come.

CONCLUSION

It takes a village to raise a child, it also takes a village to give a deserving fashion designer a chance to succeed. Dee Rivera with Times Square Fashion Week has been a space for talented designers of all backgrounds to show off their creative work. TSFW has been at the crossroads of the world since 2018, becoming a new and everlasting fashion destination in New York City for style to ascend without bias. TSFW is not only a curated space, but a space in midtown Manhattan for the rest of the world to see how the fashion industry moves. There’s so much more possibilities to explore and uncover with fashion designers of all ages and backgrounds at Times Square Fashion Week, carving out the future of not only fashion, but what New York Fashion Week could be.
