THE BEST THING OUT OF 2019

“Moulin Rouge, The Musicial”, announced Thursday that they will be closing on Broadway at the Al Hirschfeld Theater here in New York City on July 26. Being the only show from 2019 to ever have open a still be here today in 2026, and recouping their investment in late 2022, “Moulin Rouge, The Musicial” left an unbridled mark. Winning 10 Tony’s in 2021, nearly 2,300 shows after it closes, and highest grossing production in Hirschfeld’s history, it’s more than just numbers this Broadway show has left. Ironically, this production opened on July 25, 2019.

It’s not just a full circle moment, or opening just months after previous tenant, “Kinky Boots” moved out, “Moulin Rouge, The Musical” opened at the last great time of Broadway. 2019 was frenetic, non-stop, intense, emotional, and super-charged not only for tourist, but those dancers, singers, and actors working on Broadway. DANIEL PLUS LAUREN who’d frequented NYC and Broadway Dance Center back in 2019 saw this unbelievable energy from others, as well as encounter it. And yes, forever changed by it where they made purposeful decisions that benefited DPL to this day.

But it’s not just me that got influenced by “Moulin Rouge, The Musical”, it’s those performers who got their shot off this production. An inevitable beacon of character starting pre-COVID, lockdown, and shortly after Broadway’s comeback was 45th Street between 8th and 9th Avenue lit up. Costumes, dancing, characters, bold personalities, and stories are what has driven the pop culture influence of “Moulin Rouge: The Musical” which resonates deeply in the theater community.
