Maya Romanoff, the largest manufacturer of handcrafted wallcoverings in the United States, today releases their newest artisanally handcrafted wallcovering collection, Palazzo Plaster™.

Inspired by the timeless art of Venetian plaster, this collection brings the depth and authenticity of hand-troweled walls into a new, more attainable form. Traditionally, Venetian plaster is built from scratch—each layer hand-burnished by a specialist trained in an age-old craft. We’ve carried that same artistry into our studio, transforming the process into a flexible, hand-rendered artisan wallcovering that retains all the nuance, movement, and spirit of the original medium.

Each panel begins as an architectural study—created entirely by hand, using real plaster and natural materials.

Subtle shifts of texture and tone reveal the artist’s hand in every sweep. From afar, a quiet texture; up close, intricate detail and fine variation. The interplay of matte plaster and soft metallics evokes the weathered patina of European walls—rich with history, yet translated through a modern lens.

The collection explores two interpretations of Venetian plaster, each a unique expression of form and feeling.

Malta™ stays true to tradition, crafted with the classic Venetian trowel. Banda™ pushes boundaries by introducing a new, combed texture, where discipline meets experimentation. Old World technique, New World vision.

Minimal yet expressive, brutalist yet refined, this collection celebrates the tension between hand and material.

Every surface is alive with depth and imperfection—testament to a craft reimagined. What once required a specialist on-site is now available as a work of art on the roll—each piece a singular expression of movement, texture, and time.

Articulating the allure of Maya Romanoff handcraft, Palazzo Plaster is available in twenty-one appealing colorways, such as Polvere Blu, Patinare, and Dolcetto. Perfectly scaled for hospitality and residential, the collection is ideal for environments that require beauty and resilience, as it can be easily cleaned with disinfecting wipes or a diluted bleach solution.

“Handcrafted in our Chicago studio, Palazzo Plaster embodies the depth, movement, and artistry of traditional Venetian walls—reimagined as a refined, durable wallcovering that makes timeless beauty effortlessly attainable for our clients.” — Joyce Romanoff, CEO of Maya Romanoff The Palazzo Plaster collection is the latest example of Maya Romanoff’s commitment to the legacy of its founder, Maya, in creating one-of-a-kind art that cannot be replicated by machine. Maya instilled in every employee a deep respect for balancing materials with a lawless sense of play. Maya once said, “There is a soulfulness that comes from using our own hands to coax out the beauty of the material from its core essence, and that feeling comes through in the crafted products.” His ideology is clearly exemplified in this new collection that pairs a simple compound with the dedicated skills of MAYA’s artisans, as well as their rigorous standard for quality, beauty, and innovation.

“This collection is informed by my early encounters with Italian architecture and the tradition of Venetian plaster.

Influenced by Carlo Scarpa’s material sensibility and emphasis on craft, the designs explore plaster as both a natural and architectural medium. Through experimentation with layering and color, each pattern examines the dialogue between tradition and modernity, honoring an ancient technique within a contemporary design framework.” — Jacqueline Nuzzo, Maya Romanoff Associate Creative Studio Director.

Maya’s long-standing commitment to Eastern philosophy has greatly influenced the company’s respect for the environment and materials. Maya Romanoff has significant control over what goes into their products, the treatment of materials, and means of production. Maya Romanoff strives to use natural and sustainable materials, partner only with factories that treat their employees fairly and provide a safe, rewarding work environment, and purchase materials from local sources when possible. The Palazzo Plaster collection is responsibly manufactured at their 40,000 square foot production studio in Skokie, IL, USA using a Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) sourced non-woven base and colored with water-based inks.
