Less Money, More Giving
Burberry announced today that its Board of Directors will take a voluntary reduction of their salaries and fees by 20 percent from April to June, with the equivalent cash amount donated to the Burberry Foundation COVID19 Community Fund.
The Burberry Foundation COVID19 Community Fund was established earlier this month for Burberry’s employees to support communities in need globally, and it’s an addition to Burberry’s financial donations made to vaccine research and charities alleviating food poverty.
Burberry’s COVID19 Fund also directs money towards procuring and distributing PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) for frontline workers fighting COVID19, helping food banks and supporting charities around the world.
Burberry will also stand on its own two feet by not relying on government support from the U.K. as a third of its employees are based there, but will continue to maintain base pay for all employees who are unable to fulfill their roles because of store or site closures.
Burberry also is adapting to the new buzzword of sustainability in the fashion industry announcing Wednesday that it’s launching “ReBurberry Edit” with 26 styles in its SS2020 collection made out of sustainable materials.
