
As expected, it was not another pleasant week to file for unemployment, as the United States Department Of Labor reported today that 3,169,000 have filed for unemployment, and only 677,000 less than last week’s numbers of 3.2 million, and more than 33 million are now out of work in over 7 weeks.
Despite some states entering the first phase of reopening our economy, it hasn’t done very much to slow down the staggering numbers of unemployment claims filed, and there are still a great number of people who haven’t received unemployment benefits because state and federal are agonizingly swamped.
At the very least, the shame of going to a food bank has been lifted, as the morning and evening rush hour of traffic jams are now replaced by long lines of cars driving up to receive a week’s worth of food from local food banks.
Though, the last patient may have left the Javits Center, and businesses like Kohl’s taking small steps to reopen, there’s still new surges of COVID19 cases possible, so there needs to be a real rebuilding of our world economy and health system.
