Regards Return
This just in, The Tony Awards surprised us on Twitter today announcing the 74th annual Tony Awards will take place this Fall on Sunday, September 26, 2021, which will be a live multi-platform event on both CBS on TV, and streaming live on Paramount Plus, which after the broadcast, will feature an additional live one hour event called “Broadway’s Back” that celebrates Broadway’s best, and the bright future of Broadway returning following the COVID19 pandemic.
The Tony’s will come 12 days after the curtain rises on Broadway again officially on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 where many shows will return, plus 2019 Tony Award winner for best show, “Hadestown” will return 12 days before Broadway’s official return on Friday, September 2 on Labor Day weekend, and when most of New York City will be functioning again at full capacity.
Apparently, the 2020 Tony Awards didn’t take place due to the COVID19 pandemic, but nominations for major productions that didn’t even happen were nominated last October, after an entire year of adjudication was lost.
Get ready! On Sept. 26, the Tony Awards present BROADWAY’S BACK!, a multi-platform celebration of the best of Broadway—the 74th annual #TonyAwards & a live concert event celebrating the return of live theatre, on @CBS and @paramountplus.
