Cathartics X-tended (Tay & Liv’s Version)
The future, the great reset, the next generation is here, no, it’s not sustainability, nor is it gen Z, it’s the rebirth of telecast of the Tony Awards, which took place this past Sunday night, seeing an uptick in viewership, for the second year in a row, and it’s all because of live-streaming, starting with the power of CBS, which carried the Tony’s over-the-air on linear TV broadcast live coast-to-coast, then comes the resurrection in all this, Paramount Plus, Deadline reported on Monday that the streamer saw a 13 percent jump from 2022, following up on its 39 percent jump from 2021.
Hype of the Tony’s didn’t stop live on-air, it spread to the biggest on-going social media platform there is, Twitter, all 3 forms of Tony were trending (Tony Awards, #TonyAwards, and #TonyAwards2023) at number 1 along with other moments the live ceremony served up, proving how strong live theater and the influence of Broadway is across the country, in spite of inflation, and Broadway still finding its way back from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The driver here is live-streaming, a bonafide lifeline that’s much-needed to keeping the stage lights up on Broadway, as well as inspire other theater companies and small productions to stay in business, Daniel Plus Lauren frequently pushed Broadway to livestream during the COVID-19 pandemic, especially less than a day before Broadway shut down on March 12, 2020 at 5 p.m. EDT.
