On a warm late morning in Hell’s Kitchen today, something immediate was happening and it was at the Al Hirschfeld Theater. Crews got started clearing out what used to be “Moulin Rouge: The Musical” on Broadway. The 7 year run of this spectacular musical came to an end New York City last night. DANIEL PLUS LAUREN while on their way to Broadway Dance Center got a clear and present view of the utmost dazzling costumes being wheeled out and wrapped for preservation. Front and center on the rack was the famous black and red corset the ladies wore, plus tulle, dresses, feathers, and gowns in exact color scheme. We have variations of purple and violet gowns dawned on this rack while we also see blue feathers all carefully handled by crew.

Last night was a closing night not to be forgotten with “Moulin Rouge: The Musical” with not just the final performance but a reunion 7 years in the making. At the end of the final performance along with the casts saying goodbye, Christians and Satines of the past came to give one final farewell as all took their final bow.

Right after “The Cabaret Burlesque” class ended 2 weeks ago over at Broadway Dance Center, DANIEL PLUS LAUREN was lucky enough to meet Kelsie Watts who was the final actress to play Satine as they were hanging out at Beer Culture NYC. DPL was more than honored to meet the extraordinary talent behind the leading lady that led “Moulin Rouge: The Musical” in the final stretch of its run.

This New York run had exactly 2,297 performances from when it opened in July 2019 with 129,000 can-cans and 2.9 million patrons attending from then to now. Though, NYC here seen its final bow of “Moulin Rouge: The Musical”, it is no way the end as the production continues on in London’s West End and touring all over the world. New global productions are due to open Hemburg Germany this October, Sydney, Australia next March, and Tokyo, Japan next Summer.

In the meantime, The Al Hirschfeld Theater is getting ready to welcome its new tenant, “Paddington: The Musical” opening next March.
