Redefined Intimates
Curve Expo today held its final edition of its Wednesday webinars that address how the lingerie market has been affected by COVID19, this week about “What’s Next: Mindful Trends With Purpose”, with Jos Berry, founder of Concepts Paris, who laid out how lingerie must survive in this new COVID19/ post-COVID19 world we live in, the hopes, and optimism for intimate apparel’s future.
From the top, the lingerie/ intimate apparel industry is now at a crossroads, every facet imaginable like bras, panties, shape wear, lace, and even hosiery are facing new challenges, the crisis of comfort wear dominating our shopping bags as COVID19 has eliminated the need to look good, conformity and even trends appear to be out in the fashion industry, and acceptance, sustainability, momentary need/ want, and inclusivity of all shapes and sizes of women are in.
If lingerie/ intimate apparel wants to see more years of relevance, then it must merge with comfort wear, come together for lingerie and comfort to be one, lingerie investing heavily on innovation to make their fabrics and garments more breathable, eco-friendly, and easy to wear on every woman, weeding out exclusivity, having an actual purpose.
Though, sports bras from Nike are seeing unprecedented sales growth, florals now trending onto any type of garment/ clothing, and the rising trend of biker shorts suddenly coming to a screeching halt since there’s no need to look good right now, there is hope for things outside our comfort zone, social media can’t wait for the day they can put on a dress again.
But in all the innovation that goes into lingerie/ intimate apparel to make it more comfortable, there needs to be education on the new intimates, laces, biker shorts, and lingerie made at a comfort level being made, in order for all women of any age and size to buy it.
