Weathering The Storm

Fashinnovation went to task today with its 2nd Worldwide Talks here in 2020, putting every issue like COVID19, strained race relations with blacks, solidarity, and sustainability on the table as it becomes more and more apparent that the fashion industry needs to change more as it’s changed a great deal already under COVID19.

COVID19 has forced many brands and retailers to rethink their selling strategies in order to survive, encouraging job growth hasn’t stop the fact that 42 million are still out of work, normal categories with brands can’t be pushed right now, seasonal is now season-less, and safety concerns with COVID19 and social distancing now play a key role in reopening across the country.

Solidarity, whether we like it or not, is now apart of the conversation, because of the police brutality towards George Floyd on Memorial Day, leading to his death, and massive unrest with continuous protests across the country, inclusion of blacks along with other minorities are now also apart of a brand’s and retailer’s business plan if you want to still do business with key people, as well as keep your customer base.

Rebecca Minkoff told it straight today that both COVID19 and black relations must be first and foremost with brands, some may not like it on social media, but it’s important to keep your brand identity, sanity, customer base, and know when it’s the right time to push categories in the climate we’re living in now, conversation, and collaboration weigh far more important now than competition.

The most important thing to remember here in COVID19, and even with civil unrest with the death of George Floyd is that fast fashion will have a sharp watchful eye on itself, because consumers with the little money they have will save their pennies for higher quality fashion that last, and when they really need it, instead of cute or expensive dresses being bought to go nowhere, it’s just buying that one thing you need as you slowly go out the door again, fashion that’s more meaningful at every conscious level.

There’s also the concern of the environment on this World Environmental Day, that’s where sustainability factors in, being socially responsible for the world we live in, global to local in our actions, becoming more aware of where our fashion comes from, no longer ignoring it, because the consumer in the end, no matter what age range they’re in, have the final vote, they vote with their dollars.
