UPRISING IN PROGRESS

MMGNET Group with Fashion Snoops held the first of its 3 trends and sourcing webinars last week with Fashion Snoops, starting off with women’s spring and summer 2025 trend outlook. Notably, the effects of post-COVID-19 are still with us, and rebellion from the linear and non-linear establishment are trickling down onto the runway. GEN Z especially are breaking away from what the expectations of fashion require of them, there’s even a social media backlash. Women’s SS25 consisting of groundbreaking authenticity is broken down into 4 aesthetics, Honest, Movement, Devotion, and Convergence.

HONEST

As we’ve seen over the past 3 years, GEN Z has sent a serious question to the fashion industry. What is Honest? Honest is moving away from fashion that doesn’t align with our real life in motion, it’s all about finding true fabrics and looks that don’t constrict. Less than 5 percent of GEN Z only accept aspirational fashion that’s unattainable, authenticity is now in. Design with intention through detail and sustainability as you settle on colors also of open water, soft drizzle, browns, soil, terra cotta, and such. Women’s contemporary items include maxi shirt dresses, linen waistcoat, easy Bermuda shorts, and drop waist dress. Young women’s contemporary include panel jeans, handcrafted shirt, full denim skirt, and appliqué cardigan. Honest women’s accessories include ankle wrap espadrille, refined raffia, back plaket – wide brim, and braided t-strap. And key patterns include Breton stripes, sea spray speckle, rhythmic rows, and easy cabana.

MOVEMENT

Again, COVID-19 and its lockdown culture have caused us to connect with the world more. What’s an ever-growing threat now is AI (artificial intelligence), and how it stands to eliminate the human touch. DMT (dance movement therapy) has been seen as a new way to be more in touch with your soul. House and queer movements in the clubs bring on a new generation of aesthetics stemming from the healing powers of DMT. Draping silhouettes are lightweight, functional, movable, and effervescent, colors are barely there, breezy blue, pirouette pink, and purple tonic. Women’s contemporary includes sarong dress, resort skirt, knotted sweater, and easy cargos. Young women’s include ruched cutout top, pastel puddle jeans, flared A line dress, and airy slip skirt. Accessories include mesh sock boot, featherweight satchel, anklet ballet flat, and asymmetrical curves. And key patterns are cloudy abstracts, mirrored lineation, crystalline, and blurred trompe l’oeil.

DEVOTION

We know we’re living in uncertainty, where the idea of the big corporate way is more of a threat to our beliefs. So consumers especially GEN Z are turning to brands that value their beliefs and are bigger than them. Agnostics play a big role in mix and match apparel, creating a new world away from social media and into micro-communities. Aesthetics are built on elevated design shifts through modesty and iconography, womenswear is folklore through cultural symbology. Color palettes are stable through wash black, delicate gray, tinted purple, glazed cherry so to speak. Women’s contemporary includes resort pants, printed maxi dress, maxi sarong skirt, and knit skirt set. Young women’s include printed weekender jeans, folk jacket, crafted Bermudas, and beach shirt. Women’s accessories include lace up stacked heel, seamed construction, metal work earring, and crotched mule. And design patterns include pictorial patchwork, arcane insignia, quiet toile, and heirloom bloom.

CONVERGENCE

We’ve come to the final aesthetic of Convergence, the difference between reality and fantasy. Or in crisis terms, dissecting what is at your fingertips versus artificial intelligence (AI). AI is quickly becoming a growing threat to human connectivity, but that doesn’t mean we can’t use AI to improve reality. Reaching out to earthly organisms through AI has proven to be a powerful partnership to minimize human decline. Silhouettes are HD amplified through nature and textiles along with biomimicry via a playful lens, AI and the earth work hand in hand. Colors real and unreal include sulfur, envy, glazed cherry, lava red, blues, galactic, and such. Women’s contemporary are veiled top, shell bomber jacket, maxi cardigan, and dyed cargos. Young’ems are metallic jeans, hypnotic mini dress, active tank, and acid wash jorts. Accessories involve bio flora sandal, jelly bead bag, jeweled mushroom, and augmented heel. And key patterns include plasmic spots, silicon meadow, wild waves, and earthen alchemy.

CONCLUSION

Women’s contemporary one year from now will be at a crossroads, it’ll seek away from the big brand aesthetic coming down to earth to find realness. Moving through our way to healing will help us find more clarity behind the beliefs near and dear to us. We will also be committed to finding brands bigger than our purpose, pushing us to more devotion to the cause. But while AI remains a threat, AI will also be there to infuse nature and technology to create organic style while honoring the future. It’s said that GEN Z cannot be outgoing and expressive, but if you enhance their modest beliefs, you will change your mind real quick.
