On Saturday, February 22, 2025, the Fighting Chance Foundation (AFC) celebrated its grand opening in Long Beach, California, with an inspiring ribbon-cutting ceremony and a day filled with excitement, community support, and impactful speeches. AFC, a non-profit organization, is dedicated to helping youth recover from mental health challenges and substance abuse through the discipline and empowerment of boxing training.

The event, coordinated by Operations Director Nychol Woods, was a resounding success, drawing attention from the local community, industry leaders, and notable public figures. One standout moment was the special appearance of VIP model, influencer, and publicist, Jay Alexis Murray, whose presence added an extra layer of star power to the event.
The festivities kicked off at 11:00 AM with the ribbon-cutting ceremony, which was facilitated by Councilmember Chase Gibson and Amar Marwaha, the founders of AFC. As the doors opened to the public, attendees were welcomed with a promotional video showcasing the foundation’s mission to provide a safe space for youth, aged 12 to 18, to find healing and purpose through the sport of boxing.
The event was packed with activities, including an awards ceremony recognizing community supporters, and guest speakers who shared their personal stories and the positive impact AFC programs aim to create. Among them was Eric Klein, founder of Can-Do, who discussed empowerment, and Charissa Kennedy from Kids in the Spotlight, who emphasized the importance of mentorship. Other impactful speakers included Pastor Zach Strasters from Creed LA, Daniel Bisuano, AFC’s community ambassador and former foster youth, and Jeffrey Munoz of Homeboy Industries, who shared inspiring insights about overcoming adversity.

Guests also enjoyed an array of delicious food options, including beachside tacos, SusieCakes, and Nothing Bundt Cakes. A range of booths were set up for attendees to explore, offering free youth program registrations, gym memberships, and giveaways. AFC’s partners, including Maple Counseling and Extraordinary Families, were on hand to provide additional resources for the community.
Live entertainment by DJ Fresh ensured that the energy remained high throughout the day, while a photo booth allowed attendees to capture fun memories from the event. The day concluded with a heartfelt closing speech by Chase Gibson, who reflected on AFC’s mission to support vulnerable youth and build a healthier, more resilient community.

With its grand opening, the Fighting Chance Foundation has established itself as a beacon of hope for Long Beach youth, proving that boxing is more than just a sport—it’s a path to healing and recovery. Through their programs, AFC is giving youth a fighting chance at a brighter future.
