YEP, TAYLOR OWNS IT ALL

Taylor Swift took to her Instagram today that she now owns all of the music she originally recorded, prior to the era of Taylor’s Version, buying back from former manager, Scooter Braun, for an undisclosed amount. Taylor laid out the endearing, painful, and rewarding journey in a handwritten letter to fans about what it took to get to today’s announcement. Taylor started off saying she dreamed of the moment when she could have ownership in not only her music, but the memories and raw moments that came with it. Taylor then declared that dreams of ownership were now indeed a fact, something that Taylor’s been reserved, yet very excited about no less.

Taylor Swift also the most important question of all, What about “Reputation TV? Taylor’s response is that it will come at a time of celebration, not at a moment when Taylor felt insecure which Taylor was when original “Reputation” was released in August 2017. However, Taylor will only celebrate “Rep TV” if her fans still want it now or later, and it’ll be at a moment when it’s time to pop champagne (but a big if). Along with full transparency, Taylor also was full disclosure about not even re-recording a quarter of “Rep TV”. Taylor could even imagine re-recording all of her 6 albums because Taylor thought nothing could be improved upon those sounds that changed Taylor’s life forever.

The one thing to gain from this entire experience in Taylor’s journey to own all of her music is inspiration, Taylor and the world have seen and been at awe of all the conversations that have since sparked once Taylor lost the fight the first time in 2019. Fans and new artists alike rallied around Taylor en masse, taking up serious conversations with their managers and their record labels to own the music they record. An issue that use to be discussed in music industry boardrooms now has become a larger discussion not only in music, but in varying industries as well. It’s gravely important for you to reap the rewards of all the hard work you put into creating something, it’s imperative not only for recognition, but also for your quality of life. Knowing that you don’t have to answer to someone else when collecting payment on all the work you put into creates sanity and longevity without even trying.
