Another Lifeline To Broadway?
Variety reported today that a slate of Warner Bros. movies due to be released in theaters this summer have been postponed with new dates, or postponed indefinitely, the latter includes “In The Heights” which does not have a new date, this is all because of COVID19 restrictions by the CDC regarding large crowds, and whether people will be comfortable enough to return to theaters when the ban is finally lifted.
Originally scheduled for June 26, “In The Heights” indefinite delay is yet another strike against Broadway, where the actual Broadway in New York is shutdown till April 12, or later if it changes, so Daniel plus Lauren goes to task again, like with live-streaming for Broadway and movies too, yours truly encourages Warner Bros. to release the film early, but with Video On Demand, just like with another Warner Bros. movie that is “Birds Of Prey”.
Already, Rosie O’ Donnell on Sunday night came through in a big way for Broadway with her livestream benefit to support The Actor’s Fund, raising over $500,000, an “In The Heights” VOD release can send added assurance to the Broadway community, as well as those involved in the movie, and the Latino community, especially since all of us have to stay at home.
No matter the form, and no matter the support, Broadway and movies need a life preserver this moment, and “In The Heights” going VOD can be the answer to save the day.
