Livestream Saves Us

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s anticipated YouTube channel, “The Shows Must Go On”, finally went live today at 2 p.m. EDT with the 2000 adaptation of “Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”, and it’s off to an excellent start, having nearly 62,000 views for the livestream.

The big news was announced on Thursday that Webber’s theater performances would be live-streamed, and available for 48 hours soon after, National Theatre saw phenomenal success when it first live-streamed “One Man, Two Guvnors” starring James Cordon over the last week.

Like with Broadway here in the U.S., the U.K.’s West End has suffered greatly since stay-at-home orders were put in place to stop the spread of COVID19, Ambassador Theatre Group announced today that it would extend its suspension till May 31, and the live-streaming idea was first brought up by Daniel plus Lauren right before Broadway shutdown.
