Never Too Late

Iris Apfel, the starlet who discovered her iconic status in the world of fashion much later in life, is dead at 102. The New York Times and Instagram reported Friday of her death, taking her geriatric starlet status to whole new levels in the 80’s and 90’s by setting trends with multicolored Bill Blass jacket with tinted hopy dancing skirt and goatskin boots. Iris Apfel was not one who dressed like everyone else, it allows you the freedom to not think everyone else.

Early in Iris’s life, Iris did interior design for private clients for Greta Garbo and Estee Lauder. Iris retired from interior design in 1992 to be more free-spirited. Iris made her mark by featuring her iconic wardrobe right out of her closet at The Met here in New York City. And as Iris Apfel described it, “This is no collection,” Ms. Apfel said. “It’s a raid on my closet. I always thought to show at the Met you had to be dead.”
